2022 National Preparedness Month: Protect Your Legacy

September is National Preparedness Month — an excellent opportunity to step up your messaging about earthquake risks and encourage people to take action today to prepare for disasters and emergencies.

This year’s theme is “A Lasting Legacy” (#LastingLegacy), with the core message, “The life you’ve built is worth protecting. Prepare for disasters to create a lasting legacy for you and your family.” The 2022 campaign features a call to action for the Black and African American community. Message topics in the campaign’s media kit include teaching children and youth, making a personal/family emergency plan, and building emergency supply kits.

Watch also for national public service announcements throughout the month that are designed to help deliver preparedness information to those who live in underserved communities.

Community Emergency Response Teams

The National CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) conference will take place August 18-20 in Galveston Texas. Check out the National CERT Association website to learn more.

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. CERT offers a consistent, nationwide approach to volunteer training and organization that professional responders can rely on during disaster situations, allowing them to focus on more complex tasks.
