Sylmar Earthquake: It’s been 50 years

February 9 is the 50-year anniversary of the M6.5 San Fernando/Sylmar earthquake in California. The deaths and serious damage caused by this quake led to new building codes and land-use policies aimed at increasing seismic resistance.
